Who We Are
We are a Church Plant operating under oversight of Mt. Calvary PCA in Walnut Grove, Sc. We are still in the early stages of planning. We are focusing on the town of Woodruff and surrounding area, seeking to meet the challenges of a fast growing community with a significant county wide low income community.
What We Believe
We seek to be a confessional Presbyterian church. We hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith.
Our Distinctions
What makes us distinct from other models of church planting is an emphasis on seeing a church come into existence through evangelism and discipleship, with a commitment to making sure we reach poorer communities. Church planting as it is done in many evangelical churches in America usually happens in one of two ways. The first is mother daughter churches, where a section of the congregation is sent to an area to form a new congregation. The second is church plants that begin services with a small core group. Neither of these approaches is necessarily bad. Any time a Churches plant churches in other areas, there are almost always new believers. For this we are thankful. Yet many Christians are becoming more and more concerned that much of the “growth” in church planting is simply growth by transfer. It’s important that we see churches planted by evangelism and discipleship.
John’s Back Story
In 1993 I left my home and construction job in Michigan drove to Neon Kentucky to work on houses for low income people. That summer led to a position as Volunteer Coordinator for a housing ministry and eventually a church plant. To make a long story very short, 14 years later I had a wife and 4 children, a seminary degree and an overworked, exhausted mind and body. After managing a camp and pastoring a few churches I believe God is calling me to step back into the role of church planter. I’m excited to take the hard lessons God has taught me and use them in a new church planting opportunity. I still have much to learn, but by God’s grace much to offer.
